First things first, I’m not sure if I’ve been calling this man Tom or Tim, but his name is certainly Tim. My apologies to Tim. Anyways, today the writing exercise was accompanied by some background noise as Tim was walking through a cemetery. The reason was to demonstrate that walking is a great way to unlock creativity. You can’t walk and write, so he did the walking part, but encouraged listeners to get out and walk, taking a new path if and when possible. I like walking, but I’ll be waiting for it to warm up a bit first.

The exercise was another free write, but I wanted to write a story. I listened to an interview with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan earlier today, and he talked about how he never knows how the shows he writes are going to end. To him, that’s a strength, because it keeps him from being married to ideas whenever better ones come along. This was a relief to me, because I have ideas for shows, but don’t have ideas for endings of shows. I also have a tendency to get too in my head if something doesn’t have an ending. So what better way to work on this than by making up a story with no clue where I was going next? Coincidentally, the timer stopped at a cliffhanger. Maybe this will turn into a show or movie one day. Who knows?!? Enjoy!
