Who are the best wide receivers in college football history? P.D. and I try to figure it out. Also, why are we nearly halfway through the season with no clue which teams are good? Plus, much more in this week’s “The Best College Football Show with Brandon and P.D.!”
Now, to the sports!

MLB Playoffs: Tampa Bay Rays @ Cleveland Guardians at 6:00 pm (ET) on TBS
Last week, I said I was pretty certain it’d be the White Sox in the ALCS. In fairness to me, they only had to win one more game to advance while Cleveland needed to come up with three in a row. Well, here we are. Jose Ramirez went supernova, and now the Guardians are in their 4th ALCS of his career. He’s already a legend in that city. How big will he be if he leads them to their first World Series win since 1948? We’re very close to finding out.
MLB Playoffs: Milwaukee Brewers @ Los Angeles Dodgers at 9:00 pm (ET) on FS1
Well, shit. After back-to-back World Series titles, the Dodgers have dug themselves quite the hole against a Brewers club looking to avenge last season’s NLCS sweep. At the time of this writing, Los Angeles is batting .193 in the postseason. Yeah, that’s probably not going to cut it. Can their bats wake up enough to get this series back to Milwaukee? Or will the Brewers be partying in LA?

MLB Playoffs: Tampa Bay Rays @ Cleveland Guardians at 6:00 pm (ET) on TBS
Game 4! The Rays were cruising in Game 1, but their bullpen absolutely fell apart. This is the first postseason run for much of their core, so their ability to bounce back and take Game 2 was impressive. Feels like we’ve got ourselves a series here!
MLB Playoffs: Milwaukee Brewers @ Los Angeles Dodgers at 9:00 pm (ET) on FS1
Game 5, if necessary. If I had to bet, it may end up being necessary, but also the final game of the series.

College Football: #4 Ohio State Buckeyes @ #5 Indiana Hoosiers at 12:00 pm (ET) on Fox
It feels like the defending champion Indiana Hoosiers are holding on for dear life. Their comeback win last week against Nebraska was the second time in three weeks that they escaped with a one-score win. Now, they’ve got a Buckeyes team coming to town that’s looked like a buzzsaw since their devastating loss to Texas. This could be a Heisman resume-padding day for Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith if Indiana isn’t careful.
WNBA Finals: Atlanta Dream @ Golden State Valkyries at 3:30 pm (ET) on NBC
I wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t seen it with my own two eyes. Both teams breezed through the conference finals. Golden State won all three regular season matchups, but the Dream have looked like a completely different team since the last time they played. I honestly have no clue how this one plays out other than I’m not expecting many points to be scored. These were the top two teams in defensive rating in the regular season. Shout out to the first person who said “Defense wins championships!”
College Football: #2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish @ #8 BYU Cougars at 7:30 pm (ET) on ABC
Well, would you look at that? Notre Dame is finally playing a team with a pulse. Albeit one that isn’t allowed to have caffeine, but baby steps, I guess. QB CJ Carr has looked fantastic for the Irish, throwing for 16 TDs to just 1 INT against their cupcake schedule. This will be a true test for him as the BYU defense has allowed just 1 opposing starter to throw for 200+ yards this season. Meanwhile, there are plenty of questions about just how far BYU’s own sophomore QB, Bear Bachmeier, can take them. Leading the Cougars to their first win against a top-3 opponent since the opening game of the 2009 season would go a long way towards easing those concerns. It feels like this one should be played in the ‘80s. Dust off your Nintendo and get ready!

NFL: Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars at 9:30 am (ET) on NFL Network
At what point do they just become the London Jaguars? Jag-ew-arrrrs, if you will. Jacksonville won a wild one against the Eagles last week in London. Now, they take on a Houston team coming off its first win of the season. You just can’t go wrong with breakfast football, folks!
LA LIGA Soccer: Sevilla @ Real Madrid at 3:00 pm (ET) on ABC
After looking like world beaters to start the season, this star-studded Real Madrid club has come back down to Earth a bit. They find themselves just one spot ahead of Sevilla in the LA LIGA standings. Can they get back on track at home, or will Sevilla keep walking them down?
MLB Playoffs: Los Angeles Dodgers @ Milwaukee Brewers at 8:00 pm (ET) on FS1
Game 6, if necessary! You know what? Let’s just make other plans.
NFL: Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers at 8:20 pm (ET) on NBC
Whose weakness is weaker? Dallas’ defense is 32nd in rushing yards allowed. The Packers are 32nd in rushing yards per game. Unless they’ve added more teams that I don’t know about, that’s pretty bad for both of them. It also kinda feels like each team is teetering on the edge of their season going completely off the rails. That sort of desperation in prime time could make for a drama-filled evening. From the network that brings you all of the Law & Orders, too!

MLB Playoffs: Cleveland Guardians @ Tampa Bay Rays at 5:00 pm (ET) on TBS
Game 6, if necessary! Which feels infinitely more likely than…
MLB Playoffs: Los Angeles Dodgers @ Milwaukee Brewers at 8:00 pm (ET) on Fox
…this one going to a Game 7. If the Dodgers make it here and still lose, you’ll never hear from me again.
WNBA Finals: Atlanta Dream @ Golden State Valkyries at 8:00 pm (ET) on USA Network
But have no fear, Game 2 of the WNBA Finals is here. While it’s nice that they have moved away from ESPN/ABC announcing team of Rebecca Lobo and Ryan Ruocco for this series, surely they could put it on NBC, right? For those of you wondering, Lobo is still in mourning over the Liberty’s exit until UCONN’s season starts, and Ruocco will be performing at a club near you as Pitbull’s incredibly professional alter ego, American Staffordshire Terrier. Make sure to listen to his hit single “In-Room Dining!”

NBA: Philadelphia 76ers @ New York Knicks at 7:00 pm (ET) on NBC
Holy shit, the NBA regular season is here! The new-look 76ers take on the defending champion Knicks. LeBron won’t even have to use his helicopter to get to this one! No matter what happens here, let’s make sure we overreact!
NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder @ San Antonio Spurs at 9:30 pm (ET) on NBC
It’s inherently goofy to try and predict what’s going to happen over the course of an 82-game season, but who in the Western Conference is going to challenge either one of these teams? In case you forgot, the Spurs took down OKC in last year’s Western Conference Finals that went the distance. They were fueled almost entirely by Victor Wembanyama’s hatred of Chet Holmgren. The more interesting storyline to me this year is whether or not Wemby can stay healthy enough to challenge Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for MVP. Tap in!

WNBA Finals: Golden State Valkyries @ Atlanta Dream at 8:00 pm (ET) on USA Network
Game 3 in State Farm Arena, after much angst. This was supposed to be played on Thursday, but the league moved it up so the Dream could use the 17,000-seat arena instead of their 3,500-seat home court. My question is: how long does it typically take to move to a new spot permanently? The Dream outgrew the Gateway Center Arena like two seasons ago. Now, it was just announced that they will be making the permanent move to State Farm Arena next year, but damn! Is the ticket office in charge of this? I’ve got a longstanding feud with the Dream ticket office.
NBA: Golden State Warriors @ Los Angeles Lakers at 10:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
Is it time for me to move on from my Lakers fandom? I simply no longer enjoy watching them play basketball. I think pulling for them has put a damper on my NBA enjoyment as a whole. I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I am sure that I won’t be pulling for the Warriors, though. At least not as long as Draymond is there. A couple of rosters stuck in purgatory. But it’s basketball!
As always, thank you for reading! Make sure you’re subscribed so you get this in your inbox first thing Thursday mornings! Also, share with your friends! See you next week!
