A lot of postseason action this week! With that being the case, I’ll stick the fun facts in the first entry in which a team appears and keep it moving. Also, we’ll be pulling some overlapping time slots this week, too, so that we can keep up with all of the action. But don’t worry, you’re prepared!
It’s October, so you’re going to be looking for the Horror Movie of the Week. The bad news is that you won’t find it in here. The good news is that I’m making a separate post for it. As many horror movies as I can stand to write about all month long, so check back in here like 400 times a day.
What else is October? WNBA playoffs! I dropped my annual postseason power rankings. Spoiler alert: the Liberty upsetting the Lynx was not on my bingo card! The rest of it is still good, though, plus an all-time movie comp!
Now, to the sports!

MLB Playoffs: Philadelphia Phillies @ Atlanta Braves at 2:00 pm (ET) on NBC
I’ve never seen two teams try to lose a game with as much determination as these two had in Game 2. The Phillies blew a gem of a performance on the mound by ace Cristopher Sanchez with goofy defensive play to go down by 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th. Then, the Braves bullpen turned around and coughed that lead up on back-to-back homers by Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper in the top of the next inning. An Alec Bohm opposite-field shot in the top of the 10th proved to be the winner, and here we are. The stakes can’t get any higher because the loser goes home. The winner gets a shot at the defending champion Dodgers!
WNBA Playoffs: Indiana Fever @ Las Vegas Aces at 9:00 pm (ET) on USA Network
As expected. These two went the distance last season in the conference finals, with Vegas pulling out an OT win in the deciding game. Let’s just do it again this year! The Aces won game 1 decisively behind a monster 38-point, 16-rebound game from A’ja Wilson. The Fever responded well at home with the help of perhaps the most obnoxious crowd in all of sports. One way or another, this one is going to be entertaining, so buckle up! (Please let the Aces win or I will turn to dust).
MLB Playoffs: Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees at 8:00 pm (ET) on NBC
Maybe? I had to go to sleep.
MLB Playoffs: Chicago Cubs @ San Diego Padres at 10:00 pm (ET) on NBCSN
Same here.
Friday, October 2nd, 2026
WNBA Playoffs: Dallas Wings @ Golden State Valkyries at TBD on ESPN2
If necessary. I’ve got a 14-month-old daring me to stay up and watch the end of this one so he can kick my ass tomorrow. It’s been pretty close in the first half of game 2. If it turns out Golden State advances, come back here at 9:00 am Thursday for my first horror movie post to see what you should watch instead!

College Football: #7 Alabama Crimson Tide @ #16 Mississippi State Bulldogs at 12:00 pm (ET) on ABC
No team reminds me of Jefferson Pilot Sports quite like the Bulldogs. Never mind that they’ve had plenty of great moments since that era, from Dak Prescott leading them to a #1 ranking to the late Mike Leach bringing his explosive offense to town. Nope, I still picture Sylvester Croom on the sideline as Jerious Norwood takes yet another handoff.
This year’s team might garner an update from me. QB Kamario Taylor is a must-watch every week until further notice. The sophomore has led Mississippi State to back-to-back comeback wins and leads the nation in TD passes with 14. He’s got a tall task ahead of him, as the Bulldogs have not beaten a top-10 Bama team since 1996. If Taylor pulls it off, they’ll start building his statue as soon as the goalposts come down.
MLB Playoffs: Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Guardians at 1:00 pm (ET) on TBS
The Guardians managed to squeak out an AL Central title and be better than whatever they’ve got going on in the AL West to earn the bye here. Even more impressive, they did it during a down year for star Jose Ramirez, who never really looked comfortable at the plate after suffering the dreaded broken hamate bone. They’ll take on the team they squeaked by in that divisional race, the Chicago White Sox, who were kind enough to eliminate the Astros.
College Football: #5 Ohio State Buckeyes @ #14 Iowa Hawkeyes at 3:30 pm (ET) on CBS
Iowa survived last week’s game by the husk of their corn as WR Reece Vander Zee caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Hank Brown as time expired. Speaking of names that sound made up, the Hawkeyes’ leading tackler? That’s right, Cam Buffington. No time for an emotional hangover as the nation’s leading receiver, Jeremiah Smith, brings his Buckeyes to town. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, he manages to level up. He had 12 catches for 217 yards and 4 touchdowns in a win against Illinois last week. Those are all career-highs, by the way. Iowa is known for defense, but they are going to have their hands full!
Also, here’s this week’s Best College Football Show with Brandon and P.D., where we talk about this game:
MLB Playoffs: Red Sox/Yankees @ Tampa Bay Rays at 6:30 pm (ET) on TBS
Postseason Junior Caminero! Back-to-back 40+ homer/100+ RBI seasons, and he’s barely 23 years old. He also turned into the clutchest player alive at the end of the year. A bona fide superstar in his first real postseason action against a historic franchise TBD. What more can you ask for?
MLB Playoffs: TBD @ Milwaukee Brewers at TBD (ET) on Fox
Similarly, a team as dominant as the Brewers have been this year could stumble to an early exit. Aren’t small sample size series fun?!? I don’t see how anybody other than ace Jacob Misiorowski gets the start in this one. Having someone like him probably goes a long way towards preventing embarrassing exits. Be on the lookout for him to officially be named the winner of this year’s NL Cy Young very soon!
MLB Playoffs: TBD @ Los Angeles Dodgers at TBD (ET) on Fox
It’s the Dodgers. You either love them (like me) or you hate them. Either is more than enough reason to tap in!

NFL: Indianapolis Colts vs. Washington Commanders at 9:30 am (ET) on NFL Network
At first glance, it looked like we’d served up another plate of jellied eels and mushy peas for the NFL London Games, but both teams are riding high after their first wins of the season. The Colts snuck past the Texans as they show signs of life in an AFC South that’s basically the Jags and nobody else, and the Commanders upset the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks thanks to Marcus Mariota’s first 3-TD/0-INT game since pre-COVID. Tap in for some breakfast football!
NWSL: Angel City FC @ Gotham FC at 1:00 pm (ET) on ABC
Gotham sits comfortably atop the NWSL table as the regular season winds down, but there’s still plenty to prove. Star MF Jaedyn Shaw, who leads the club in both goals and assists, was left off the USWNT squad for their upcoming matches against world #1 Spain. She still figures to be in the mix for the next World Cup roster, but that should be a nice little motivational boost as Gotham gets ready to defend its NWSL title. Don’t sleep on Angel City either, as they ride a six-match undefeated streak into this one!
WNBA Playoffs: New York Liberty @ Dream/Mystics at TBD on TBD
Game 1 of the semifinals, and I have to issue a formal apology to the Liberty. My bad! Like I said at the top, I did not have their historic upset over the Lynx on my bingo card. They didn’t just squeak by either! Just completely dismantled the regular season’s best team.
Speaking of teams that shocked me, the Atlanta Dream! Who knew they could look so poised and locked in for 40 whole minutes? Both of these teams looked like title contenders in round 1. Which one keeps it going?
WNBA Playoffs: Las Vegas Aces/Indiana Fever vs. Golden State Valkyries/Dallas Wings at TBD on TBD
Anyone but the Fever!
Monday, October 5th, 2026
MLB Playoffs: Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Guardians at 5:00 pm (ET) on TBS
Game 2!
MLB Playoffs: TBD @ Tampa Bay Rays at 8:00 pm (ET) on TBS
A second Game 2!
Tuesday, October 6th, 2026
College Football: Southern Miss Golden Eagles @ Troy Trojans at 8:00 pm (ET) on ESPN2
Hello, early-to-midweek college football action! A Sun Belt showdown between a couple of teams that you otherwise wouldn’t care about. Luckily, that’s the recipe for success for a good time with one of these games. Troy QB Goose Crowder started his career at West Virginia in 2021. How long ago was that? The Mountaineers beat an Iowa State team led by QB Brock Purdy. Enjoy this game, then hop on LinkedIn, big dawg.
Wednesday, October 7th, 2026
College Volleyball: #5 SMU Mustangs @ #2 Pittsburgh Panthers at 7:00 pm (ET) on ACC Network
Some heavy hitters! Imagine being top-5 in the nation and an underdog. That’s what happens when you face off against Pitt. The Panthers have dropped just 4 sets in 12 matches. This isn’t college football either. Half of those matches have been against top-25 teams. Can SMU hand them their first L of the year? Or will Pitt keep on rolling?
MLB Playoffs: Tampa Bay Rays @ TBD at TBD (ET) on TBS
Game 3 times one…
MLB Playoffs: Cleveland Guardians @ Chicago White Sox at TBD (ET) on TBS
…two…
MLB Playoffs: Milwaukee Brewers @ TBD at TBD (ET) on Fox
…three…
MLB Playoffs: Los Angeles Dodgers @ TBD at TBD (ET) on Fox
four!
