In case you missed it, I did preview the WNBA Finals! I also tried out a new concept to preview the NBA season. Tap in and see which of my predictions are already aging terribly!
Now, to the sports!

College Football: James Madison Dukes @ App. State Mountaineers at 7:00 pm (ET) on ESPNU
James Madison’s AD must have the greatest eye for college football coaches in the world. The Dukes are on their 3rd coach in 4 years, yet once again in the running to make the College Football Playoff. It was easy to doubt coach Billy Napier coming off his lackluster stint at Florida, but he did end his tenure at his previous stop, Louisiana, with three straight 10+ win seasons. Not everyone is cut out for the dynamics of a Power 4 job, and that’s not an insult, particularly in this current iteration of the sport. If you like points, you’ll enjoy yourself here. JMU’s balanced attack has them 3rd in the nation in scoring.

World Series: Tampa Bay Rays @ Milwaukee Brewers at 8:00 pm (ET) on Fox
In a sport with a postseason that is usually pretty chaotic, it’s neat ending up with the best team from each league in the World Series. The Brewers looked like far and away the best team in Major League Baseball all season since before Memorial Day. Do you even remember what you did for Memorial Day? Exactly. They ended my Dodgers’ chance at a historic three-peat in a sweep. You probably know that they’re led by the best pitcher in baseball in Jacob Misiorowski, but they have guys like Wilson Contreras and Brice Turang, who should be household names themselves.
The Rays grabbed control of the AL East for good just before July 4th, which you may remember. Slugger Junior Caminero has all of the makings of the game’s next bona fide superstar. At just 23 years old, he already has two 40+ home run/100+ RBI seasons under his belt. As if the homers weren’t exciting enough, check out his celebration from the ALCS clincher. It made Fox News write an article asking if home run celebrations have gone too far, so you know it’s good. We should all be pulling for him to take Misiorowski deep in Game 7 just to see what happens! But this is Game 1, so be patient!

WNBA Finals: Golden State Valkyries @ Atlanta Dream at 1:00 pm (ET) on NBC
Game 4! What a terrible time slot for a Finals game, my goodness. I’m currently watching Game 3, but it’s bedtime soon. The Valks rode a dominant 4th quarter to a Game 1 victory. Atlanta rode a dominant Angel Reese to a Game 2 victory. This is shaping up to be a hell of a series, no matter when they play the games! But seriously, put them on prime time.
College Football: #11 Tennessee Volunteers @ South Carolina Gamecocks at 3:30 pm (ET) on ESPN
An automatic watch in the Silvers household. My Grandaddy was from Tennessee, but moved down to South Carolina, and ended up pulling for both teams. I’m certainly more of a Gamecock fan than a Vols fan, which has worked out poorly for me. My earliest college football memories are of Tennessee football, though, and I do still pull for them. I miss my Grandaddy and this game being played on Halloween. I should probably do my son a favor and push him back towards Tennessee.

World Series: Tampa Bay Rays @ Milwaukee Brewers at 8:00 pm (ET) on Fox
The Rays’ offense, with guys like Junior, the spaghetti-strap-wearing Yandy Diaz, and Jonathan Aranda, gets a lot of attention, but they also have one of the best rotations in baseball. Drew Rasmussen, who started his career with the Brewers, finished 3rd in all of baseball in WHIP (Walks and Hits Per Inning Pitched). He’s allowed just 3 earned runs while striking out 23 batters in 21 innings pitched this postseason.
This was Freddy Peralta’s first big league season not on the Brewers, as an offseason trade saw him open the season with the Mets. For whatever reason, he looked nothing like the guy who finished 5th in last year’s NL Cy Young Award race during his time in the Big Apple, so Tampa Bay took a shot at him at the trade deadline. I’m sure Mets fans thoroughly enjoyed watching Peralta accept ALCS MVP honors after finishing with more wins than earned runs allowed against the Guardians.
The fact that Milwaukee doesn’t miss these two guys tells you everything you need to know about their rotation. As you would figure with a rotation led by Misiorowski, the Brewers finished tied for 2nd in all of baseball in strikeouts per 9 innings. The Rays don’t blow batters away in the same manner, but they make batters earn it by issuing the fewest walks in the big leagues. Which teams' bats will break through?

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New Orleans Saints at 9:30 am (ET) on NFL Network
In France! Which is currently in the midst of a countrywide protest over the country’s educational and living standards! And, in true American fashion, instead of following their example, we’re like, “How about some football?!?” I’m sure we’ll get Aaron Rodgers’ thoughts on all of this. I have no reason to believe they care about football in France. I’m pretty sure they didn’t even have an NFL Europe team. I cannot for the life of me figure out why we’re doing this to them, but I have to see how it goes. Maybe they love it so much they forget how their government has failed them. Works for us!
College Volleyball: #19 Texas A&M Aggies @ #4 Kentucky Wildcats at 1:00 pm (ET) on ABC
Kentucky’s sophomore setter Kassie O’Brien became just the sixth player in program history to earn National Player of the Week honors last week. She’ll lead last year’s runner-ups against the team that beat them for the National Championship as the Aggies head to Lexington. Texas A&M has struggled away from College Station this season, going just 2-6 away from Reed Arena. Can they get things figured out in time for the postseason?
La Liga Soccer: Real Madrid @ Barcelona at 4:00 pm (ET) on ABC
El Clásico time! Barcelona has looked unstoppable this season, winning all nine of their matches by at least two goals. Real Madrid may be the only team with the talent to hand them an L. A little additional drama as Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe will be facing off the day before this year’s Ballon d’Or winner is announced!
NFL: Kansas City Chiefs @ Seattle Seahawks at 8:20 pm (ET) on NBC
Kenneth Walker III returns to Seattle for the first time since earning Super Bowl MVP honors for the Seahawks in February. Honestly, Seattle should try to kidnap him so he doesn’t leave again. Walker leads the NFL with a ridiculous 133 yards per game. That’s over 26 yards per game more than second-place Bijan Robinson. Meanwhile, Seattle’s running backs have spent the season either fumbling or getting hurt. Tap in to see if Walker gets a warm welcome!

WNBA Finals: Atlanta Dream @ Golden State Valkyries at 8:00 pm (ET) on USA Network
Game 5, and we already know that it’s necessary!
World Series: Milwaukee Brewers @ Tampa Bay Rays at 8:00 pm (ET) on Fox
Game 3, but I don’t know what else you’d like me to say about this series.

World Series: Milwaukee Brewers @ Tampa Bay Rays at 8:00 pm (ET) on Fox
Oh, this is awkward.
NHL: Boston Bruins @ Carolina Hurricanes at 8:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
Worth checking this one out in between half-innings. Last year’s Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes are off to a fast start this season. Boston is the only team keeping pace early on. Is it too early to call this a potential Stanley Cup preview?

World Series: Milwaukee Brewers @ Tampa Bay Rays at 8:00 pm (ET) on Fox
Major League Baseball doesn’t waste any time. Game 5 if necessary.
NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder @ Dallas Mavericks at 9:30 pm (ET) on ESPN
I was shocked to see so many previews down on the Mavericks. Yes, a lot of new pieces, including head coach Dusty May and GM Masai Ujiri, but we also get to see Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving play together for the first time. Assuming everyone manages to stay relatively healthy, there’s more than enough talent for them to be a pain in the ass for some of the top teams in the conference. We get a chance to see how right or wrong I am here!
As always, thank you for reading! Make sure you’re subscribed so you get this in your inbox first thing Thursday mornings! Also, share with your friends! See you next week!
