The Best College Football Show with Brandon and P.D. is back with another episode where we try to make the case to be America’s woke college football pregame show! Also, we recap Texas-Ohio State, preview Lane Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss, and make some picks that will be 100% correct!

WNBA season resumes! Just in time for everyone to get back in rhythm before the postseason starts. Aces stars Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young showed out in Team USA’s run to the FIBA World Cup gold medal. But, of course, you’re here to see the G’OAT herself, A’ja Wilson, who sat out the tournament to get 100% healthy for the postseason. The Storm missed the playoffs by about infinity, so this is your chance to bid them farewell.

In a sport full of athletes who are related to people we know, Tar Heel MB Jackie Taylor might take the crown for “Most Interesting Relatives.” Her great-uncle is actor Andy Garcia, who has been in a lot of things, most notably (to the author of this newsletter at least), HBO’s Ballers. Her mom, also named Jackie, played soccer at the University of Miami. Her stepdad is Shay Haley, by far the coolest member of N.E.R.D. Tough to beat those three, but her dad might manage to pull it off.

Sean Taylor was the star safety for the 2001 national champion Miami Hurricanes that are considered by many to be the greatest college football team of all time. With the Washington Redskins, Sean quickly developed a reputation as one of the hardest-hitting defenders in the league. He infamously destroyed punter Brian Moorman in the 2007 Pro Bowl. Tragically, Sean was murdered protecting 18-month-old Jackie and her mother in a home invasion in November of 2007.

Here’s a nice ESPN article about how Sean’s death has affected Jackie, as well as the fantastic job her mom and stepdad have done navigating that. Important to note that Jackie has developed into a great athlete in her own right, making the 2024 ACC All-Rookie team. Tune in to see if she can lead her team to an upset of the top-ranked Cornhuskers!

Could one of these teams come away with their first win of the season? Or will they add another draw to the stack? I’m not a soccer expert (yet!), but I think I’ve found their problem. Between the two of them, they’ve scored just a single goal over the course of eight matches. Not great!

In London! If a proper English breakfast and terrible losses last week can’t get these two to play well, then what will? Sun Devils WR Reed Harris’ 163 receiving yards per game ranks 4th in FBS. He could be due for an even bigger day against a Jayhawks defense that allowed two 120+ yard receivers last week. Tap in!

This one should go a long way towards deciding who will end up facing Miami in the conference title game. SMU already has one ACC win under its belt thanks to a season-opening win against Florida State. QB Kevin Jennings, who it feels like has been a Mustang for a decade now, threw for a career-high 430 yards in that one, then followed it up with a 337-yard, 5-TD performance against an overmatched UC-Davis team last week.

Louisville hung tough with a very good Ole Miss squad in Week 1 before losing on a field goal at the end. QB Lincoln Keinholz, who has the most South Dakota native name ever, has proven himself to be a threat through the air and on the ground through his first two games as the Cardinals starter. He looks set to join a long line of QBs who transfer out of Ohio State and end up being very good. This feels like a pretty even matchup, so check it out!

It’s Lane Kiffin’s first game back in Oxford since lighting everything on fire as he walked out the door. This is worth watching even if they don’t show a second of the actual game.

Just one Premier League game this week because the times didn’t work. But that works out for us, because we get Kylian Mbappé’s Real Madrid club instead! They are so stacked that it can feel like you’re watching the Harlem Globetrotters, but Atlético Madrid is one of the handful of La Liga teams talented enough to make this a match. And, again, Mbappé.

How good did the Giants look opening the John Harbaugh Era with a win over the Cowboys? They’re calling Jaxson Dart the “white Lamar Jackson.” We should probably hold our horses. At least until we see how he looks against what’s sure to be a pissed-off Rams defense. Los Angeles has spent the past week fighting accusations that they are overrated after they seemingly punted on their season-opener in Australia. They also lost prized offseason acquisition Myles Garrett to knee surgery. Will they use the Giants to prove that last week was a fluke? Or are they this era’s version of the Dream Team Eagles?

The playoff field is set, but there’s still plenty of seeding question marks for this game to matter a great deal. Minnesota has sat atop the standings nearly the entire season thanks to star rookie Olivia Miles, but the streaking Valkyries have moved within two games of them for the #1 overall seed. Meanwhile, the Fever could end up anywhere from the #3 seed to the #8 seed. And, of course, each team will still be working their way back from the FIBA break. A lot going on here! Worth the watch!

After an abysmal first half where he hit just 5 home runs, I’m sad to report that Fernando Tatis Jr. has erupted for 18 homers in his last 54 games. Hope his ringworm heals quickly this time! His power resurgence has helped lift the Padres right into the thick of the NL Wild Card race.

Unfortunately for Tatis, Dodgers rookie Josue De Paula has made walks cooler than homers. When you see how much pride the 21-year-old takes in his plate discipline, it’s no surprise to learn that he’s worked out with Juan Soto. Basketball fans will also be excited to learn that he’s cousins with Stephon Marbury and Sebastian Telfair. So yeah, forget Tatis and check De Paula out!

A couple of potential AL Wild Card teams. The Red Sox should be firmly in unless they collapse in a way we’ll talk about for years to come. Cleveland still has work to do, though. The Guardians are one of four teams within 3 games of the final Wild Card spot. Every game is basically a must-win for them at this point. Can they pull it off?
